post mp3/podcast: letherette on percussion lab

November 16th, 2008

One of my fave podcasts, Percussion Lab, recently posted a sweet entry from upcoming hip-tronica act Letherette titled ‘Brown Lounge Vol 2′. This download is nearly and hour and a half of prime, abstract beats layered with equally lush synth leads and often steals vocals (and sounds) from well known acts… but Letherette makes it all a thousand times more interesting than the originals could ever hope to be. I am looking forward to an official debut from Letherette soon(ish?)

From the site:
‘Andy & Rich of Letherette met decades ago and have been making mysterious, charmingly unpolished music ever since. Their warm, tape enhanced beats are crafted from bits and pieces of the finest, melodic source material from music’s golden genres, funk and soul. Their roughly chopped rythms are imbued with a personable, feel good vibe that is lacking in most modern music these days. Everyone from Madlib, MF Doom, Flying Lotus to Pete Rock comes to mind when listening to this mix.’

I couldn’t agree more.

For some reason, it has been a long time since I visited BetterPropaganda. I see they now have a pretty high quality podcast available with some names often found here on TWX. Highly suggested.

post podcast: the tone generation

Not sure where the link came from but I have come across a really great podcast called The Tone Generation. Over ten episodes, this podcast aims to educate and remember the early pioneers of electronic music. Each track is given a moment of description and background of the sounds and the artist.

This is a must-subscribe podcast for anyone interested in or having difficulty finding these often drone-drenched, squeeling, dramatic works.

post alright… some podcasts

Hmm. Obviously I hadn’t been feeling the blog bug in awhile but I think its coming back to me.

Here are some recent haunts I have been loving that you may find of interest - ignore it if I have already posted any of these but I want to flush out all my recent links I have been tucking away:

Re:Automation Online
A *really* great podcast can be found here. It primarily focuses on electronica and IDM but the range is wide… I have discovered some good hip-hop here as well.

LivPA
An archive of sorts of some very good live performances of electronic artists including name like Vitalic, Daf Punk and others. There is a feed available for the podcast of new shows as well.

HungBunny
Fantastic name for a fantastic podcast. Often the focus is post-industrial, EBM and Powernoise but this is another host unafraid to throw the occasional indie-rock.

and of course…

Brainwashed
Now has 4 individual podcasts made up of the family of Brainwashed artists including Coil, Legendary Pink Dots and !!!. Huge rannge of styles but always quality material.

So there ya go. I am sure there are more so I’ll post when I remember them. Have any youd like to shed some light on? Please contact me!
