Ok, so it’s not pure as there is obvious editing going on but still, it’s good stuff showcasing music apps for the iPhone. And yes, I own all of these apps used, my fave being Bebot (the lil robot thingy featured) :-D

Just found a nice electronic music / gear blog called:

Waveformless

See the snip below for an idea of what

it’s about.

As you may or may not know, Musicmesse (the European equivalent of NAMM) has been going on this week. There hasn’t been too much announced that has really set my socks on fire, but this innovative approach to modular synthesis from
Klangwabe looks promising. Info is pretty hard to come by, though. Anyone have any details?”

Is this not a fucking great song? This is the first video for the recently released ‘Merriweather Post Pavilion’ on Domino Records.

While great even then, this noisepoprock outfit was only recently banging on shopping carts and being wonderfully wonky.

Love the gear-porn and how they just had to add in a real crash :-P

Either I just had a seizure or I just listened to another intense and new Squarepusher track. Realizing it is the latter, I thought I would provide you with a link to what I heard here.

The track is comes from the soon-to-be-released ‘Numbers Lucent’ EP and is Squarepusher doing what he does but with a nod to rave, gabba and electrorock. In able to get the track you must sign up for Warp Records’ mailing list… but you should be anyway.  Dont wan’t to subscribe? You can always, you know, look somewhere else…

post mp3s: lazer sword - blap to the future

Filed under: electronic, experimental, hip-hop, mashups, remixes — admin @ 3:10 pm

I may be a bit late on this but I happened across this really great duo by the name of Lazer Sword via XLR8R TV. This isn’t purely original material as it is remixes/mashups of common big name hip-hop tracks using indie rock and electro acts. The end result is simply jaw-dropping and almost hallucinogenic at times. Very heavy editing, stitching and their own ideas makes the end product sound as though it is entirely original. Click the pic above to download the 45 minute megamix known as ‘Blap to the Future’ and be sure to visit LL and Lando’s official MySpace page here.

post mp3/podcast: letherette on percussion lab

November 16th, 2008

Filed under: electronic, experimental, glitch, hip-hop, podcasts — admin @ 1:23 pm

One of my fave podcasts, Percussion Lab, recently posted a sweet entry from upcoming hip-tronica act Letherette titled ‘Brown Lounge Vol 2′. This download is nearly and hour and a half of prime, abstract beats layered with equally lush synth leads and often steals vocals (and sounds) from well known acts… but Letherette makes it all a thousand times more interesting than the originals could ever hope to be. I am looking forward to an official debut from Letherette soon(ish?)

From the site:
‘Andy & Rich of Letherette met decades ago and have been making mysterious, charmingly unpolished music ever since. Their warm, tape enhanced beats are crafted from bits and pieces of the finest, melodic source material from music’s golden genres, funk and soul. Their roughly chopped rythms are imbued with a personable, feel good vibe that is lacking in most modern music these days. Everyone from Madlib, MF Doom, Flying Lotus to Pete Rock comes to mind when listening to this mix.’

I couldn’t agree more.

post mp3: amon tobin releases ‘the foley room - live’ for free

November 7th, 2008

Filed under: drum and bass, electronic, live — admin @ 2:20 pm

Woot! Amon Tobin has released a live recording of The Foley Room - Live in Brussels clocking in at over an hour and fifteen minutes. Those unfamiliar now have a legal, free download that is a worthy listen of his work. Being live, the download is of very high quality w/ many new textures and a sound that actually feels ‘live’, something uncommon w/ electronic music. Things get really fanfuckinfab around the ten minute mark.

From the site:

““F*** visuals we’re sinking every last penny into the sound system!” - Amon Tobin

Back in early 2007 Amon Tobin released his latest full length album titled Foley Room and put together a tour focusing on the sound and the music, rather then thinking too much about lights, projections and stage antics. After all, this is music.

It’s about the sound and the shared experience of being immersed in waves of bass while dissonant collections of rhythm and melody move, confuse, annoy you a bit then move you again. a passionate affair this recording is an attempt to capture not just the music but the atmosphere of the show as a whole.

The long awaited, full-length, official recording of the legendary 2007 Foley Room tour is finally available at www.amontobin.com !  Recorded by Studio Brussels at the world famous AB theatre in Belgium - which arguably has the best sound system in Europe. After months of back and forth and despite everyone’s best efforts the mix was in danger of being edited into the ground to accommodate big labels and publishers. Rather than release a compromised version commercially, the decision was made to give it away for free instead.”

Download this NOW, dim the lights, grab a drink and in-volve.
(hint, after the jump, click ‘mp3′ - took me about 2 frustrating minutes to get it. Also, upon listen, increase your bass levels.)

post mp3: skinny puppy - ‘elements (unreleased)’

October 12th, 2008

Filed under: electronic, experimental, idm, industrial — admin @ 12:33 pm

The unofficial Skinny Puppy site Litany, particularly the forum, has shined a light on a track from Skinny Puppy that may or may not have been meant to be on the SP-but-disappointing album The Greater Wrong of the Right titled ‘Elements’. This track was ripped and stitched from an interview w/ Omar Torres and is certainly jaw-dropping. It truly is something so forward thinking and dark, intense and dramatic… THIS should have been the feel of the latest album. I am certainly holding my breath for the latest album to be released, well, whenever.

I always thought many hip-hop albums should come with an instrumental version… Puppy is getting close - Sorry, but the vocals seldom match the sound in it’s ‘flow’ anymore… and I LOVE Ogre’s voice.

It’s time to really wow me on this level, Puppy.

A hauntingly beautiful video for Twine’s ‘Endormie’ track off of Violets featuring Alison Shaw from the Cranes, one of my all time fave ethereal goth-esque bands. The strange thing is how this track is a perfect blend of Twine and The Cranes and could easily be a cut from either projects past releases… a natural collaboration.
