post honestly fucking fantastic: dub fx

A bloke, his voice and some effect pedals. A street musician in one of it’s purest forms. Dub FX just feels good.

I’ve only recently discovered Benjamin Stanford’s work via word of mouth and YouTube and have already found everything I could by this man - bootlegs and official material. It just that good. Really.

I’ve found that the melodies are fantastic, the beats raw and invigorating, the innovation relentless… though I’m not really describing the album titled ‘Everythinks a Ripple’ but the live material found on video all over YouTube (see below). This is a case where the ‘real’ is far superior to the posed, produced, polished and manicured. It’s Benjamin’s performance that seals the deal. I would NEVER throw my copy of ‘Everythink…’ in the trash but I certainly would prefer a quality recording of streetside emotion and honesty over a refined-by-q-tips take any day, any hour, any way… at least for now.

Enjoy the tracks below. Please watch each at least once through to the end. If you don’t choke up while watching any of these videos you have ventured too far from the wall and your emotional self has become unplugged.

‘Flow’, the second video is my personal fave.

Ok, so it’s not pure as there is obvious editing going on but still, it’s good stuff showcasing music apps for the iPhone. And yes, I own all of these apps used, my fave being Bebot (the lil robot thingy featured) :-D

Just found a nice electronic music / gear blog called:

Waveformless

See the snip below for an idea of what

it’s about.

As you may or may not know, Musicmesse (the European equivalent of NAMM) has been going on this week. There hasn’t been too much announced that has really set my socks on fire, but this innovative approach to modular synthesis from
Klangwabe looks promising. Info is pretty hard to come by, though. Anyone have any details?”

post gear: sennheiser orpheus

OMG. Best reviews ever.

Ok, so I was just link-hopping and somehow came to this page from Electronic Enterprises, a high-end A/V product site. Well, having heard of the Sennheiser Orpheus, I was simply delighted to see these three reviews (likely the same individual)

Original description:
The Orpheus combination offers the audiophile the ultimate in reference sound reproduction. The Best Headphones In The World, that is the unanimous verdict on the Orpheus reached by the international trade press. Audiophile limited edition only 300 systems worldwide.

Keep in mind, it costs just a few cents under $28,000. Yes, you read that right. $28k… headphones.

Now, a taste of the reviews:
My first impressions were one of total awe and delight as I don”t usually get a birthday present from my Nan. The headphones came in a lovely silver box,too which was made of recycled elephant dung.
It did take a while setting up the other thing. There were too many wires and I couldn”t find a slot for the batteries. The manual’’s in German I think.

I did have a problem when I went jogging. Well, more specifically my valet did . He kept complaining about the weight of the portable light display unit.( Which by the way only has a yellowish glow. You”d think that there would be a few more colours!)

I did get round to wiring them to my iPod and gave them a blast. Here are some of my test results

First was Fire Starter by the Prodidgy ( I f@#king love that Keith bloke .He’’s mad for it) 8/10

Next I tried some old foggie music George Michael’’s Careless Wrister. Sounded okayish but the song’’s the same as him, a right w!#ker! 6/10

Staying with old gay geezers, I played Sir Elton’’s Candle in the wind. You know the version for Princess Di. The Piano sonded a bit tinny. 4/10

Finally was the the girl who won that TV show ” Reality Sucks” . I can”t remember her name but she’’s pretty fit and she’’s got her belly button pieced the same as my Mum. 9/10

They sound all right I suppose, but they look really old.

Well done, sir. Well done.

Be sure to visit the links above for the others.

Because, well, sometimes even geeks like myself need to have their hearts melted by fur and electronics.
