Because I can’t seem to get enough of Anticon as of late, heres a track by Alias. More indie hipster-hop, yes, but still a worthwhile listen.

How about these amazingly long posts, eh? been busy trying to finish a track for my good friend Ryan. Nothing else new, just trying to get this week over with. I need drink, quick. hehe

While both have very successful solo careers, Lisa Gerard and Brendan Perry make much more beautiful, timeless music when together as Dead Can Dance. Their discography ranges from rock to ambient to classical (to name a few) but you can always tell a DCD track from anything or anyone else. This track is from the album “The Serpents Egg” and can be heard in “Baraka”, a world documentary by Ron Fricke that is just as impressive.

It is rare that I say something is a “must have” but i must say you must download this Restiform Bodies track. My good friend Ryan (love to pdx, post of his work coming soon) introduced me to them some years ago and I was near dizzy to find that the Anticon website had a few tracks up. They have a very interesting sound… bratty indie hipsterhop with a brain. VERY good. Get yours now.

Her Space Holiday are quickly becoming a frequent listen. Indierockish with a bit of ambient and hiphop feel. Vague, yes, but a worthy listen from an artists who manages to pull from various influences that keeps things from getting stale.

I know, it seems I’m a bit behind on this whole M83 thang. Finally, I managed to discover what it’s all about and now I’m kicking myself for not listening to them sooner. Imagine Air meets My Bloody Valentine and you might just be touching on the sound that is M83. This is my fave cut I have heard so far…

By far not your typical Nurse With Wound but that doesnt mean its not as equally intoxicating and layered as the more backwards-introspective-bad-acid-trip that makes up much of the NWW back catalog.
Nurserawk. Dig it.

to rococo rot seem to have an endless supply of warmth and beauty. This is easily one of my fave TRR tracks. Indietronica and well worth the listen.

Just got the demo version of Ableton 4.0. Anyone else out there using Ableton? I had but a few minutes to test it out last night before I went to bed but its safe to say the latest version is nothing less then brilliant. Already an amazing program, it now supports VST instruments and comes with a myriad of goodies including midi effects. I think i know where all of my
free time for the next two weeks will be going…
I think I’m finally getting over this sickness that has been taking too much of my energy as of late. An uneventful weekend, all in all. Spent hours watching the Reno 911 marathon (fucking hilarious). Went to see Sky Captain and I fell asleep half an hour into it. Yeah, it was dumb and way too hyped up but at least we went for chinese (or a bastardized version of chinese) at a local buffet afterwards.
Its official, Brian will be back in New Orleans for good on Oct 2nd just in time for Holloween. Finally, a familiar face that wont go away. I’m excited, I need the company.

“Internet only” single from Pole. Stefan Betke throws out a dub style track with some sweet words supplied by fat jon. I have found myself really liking this track and a good turn for Pole. Mixes well with an ice cold bottle of Abita and toying around w/ Ableton while the spouse drools over First Blood.
you tell ME whats the better way to spend a beautiful saturday evening.

Foetus and kid606. Could there possibly be anything more perfect? Very fast, self consuming, abrasive remix of “shun”.

Yup, yup, all is well.
It never got that bad here in the city… occasionally strong wind gusts but overall it was pretty tame. We sat around and watched TV, frequently getting our weather station fix but fell asleep around ten on the living room floor and woke up around 5am to see that we BARELY avoided what is proving to be one hell of a monster storm. Now, i get to deal with Xero and Randy saying “I told you so” — whatever.
I highly appreciate those readers out there that sent email and posts of concern. Looks like TWX has a much broader, friendly, regular audience then I thought Thank you all for reading.
Also, thanks to Brian for his assistance in storm prep. Didnt know someone could be of so much help and be 900 miles away - you rock.
Livia and Nathan, you beautiful lushes you. got your message and will return the call. I love both of yous and the house sends warm buckets of smiles and waves (same for you, brian).

quick update
Still toughing it out in New Orleans. The winds are starting to pick up and the city has issued a 2pm curfew. The city is empty. I never thought I would see a day where there is absolutely no traffic in the French Quarter, no tourists, no caliope echoing from Jackson Square.
Believe it or not and perhaps even call us naive and insane but we all went out to a friends for a “hurricane party” last night and got smashed, even went to the bars (yeah, a select few were open) - I guess thats how to really handle a potential disaster in true New Orleans fashion, lol. There are still many people that have stayed either out of lack of transportation or just plain disinterest.
Things may be looking better according to the retna-burning yellow, green and red swirls glowing from the television screen. Overall, I am feeling optimistic.
things may change though.
For those concerned, I have AvantBlog on my palmpilot so I will be continuing to post there and will tranfer it as soon as this has blown over so reading this is prob the best way to get an update on us.
love to all

09.12.04 theme: ogredung pt I view all past selections here
Hmm, not sure how long this netlabel has been running but I’m liking it. So far, they have 67 releases that are mostly EP’s or singles. The overall quality is pretty good but it was a bit difficult to find 5 good tracks that I could listen to regularly, throw into a mix, not feel like I have to skip the track or just simply stuck out from the lot. All is subjective and hey, this IS only pt I of many to come for ogredung I am certain
note: at last attempt, tracks can only be “right click - saved” and may not load simply by clicking the link.
neurotron - “lain” - by far the most dancefloor friendly, housey song on Ogredung. This is actually a remix of the original “lain” by Unit21. from catalog# od065
iermoc - “fiveweeks” - microedits make up the bulk of what makes this schizophrenic IDM track interesting. from catalog# od061
Makunouchi Bento - “Crisp” Q’s Qrocantmix - the sites decription of this track spills over w/ references to nature and perhaps thats not too far off. Too beat driven to be ambient, too ambient to be just another IDM nod. Beautiful, prob my fave cut from OD. warning: the bass kick is mixed waaay too high so watch the level or say goodbye to your subwoofer. from catalog# od037
indifference vs silent poets - “to come…” - post-rock inspired bigbeat. Wish the ending went on a bit more with its latin flair. from catalog# od052
talk show host - “kyoto” mp3 - starts off as a noise/broken beat slab but patches itself together at the right time to become a bouncy noisebrokenbeatslab. Yeah, silly sounding but I thought it apporpriate. from catalog# od067
