Ahh, finally feeling better. Here is something to celebrate, something to wake, something to do a silly dance to. This is also (humurously) posted in response to a request for “the gay techno mp3blog” from fellow (assumingly) straight mp3 blogger rhetoricpig. Check it out his blog you haven’t. He’s got some good shit over there and it is pretty damn entertaining.
(hope this satiates your quest if not already conqured, lol. I am curious, is there REALLY a gay techno mp3blog or is this another one of my naive moments? That would even make my stomache turn. How, why would anyone do such a…)

It snowed in New Orleans today. Very very strange. I know, I know… the rest of the country is blanketed in frigid fluff while we only got a dusting but supposedly it is very unusual for New Orleans to get snow, a white Xmas. I heard that a few years ago the city was pretty much shut down because they got a few inches of the stuff.
This is a far cry from the ice storm in Lawrence, KS (in 2001, maybe?) where the entire area was sealed in a half-inch solid sheet, trees collapsing from the pressure. Interesting how so many thing change in only a few hundred miles.
I miss the snow, really…

I am not exactly one for religious holidays though I must admit I do like the whole gift exchange thing. If nothing else this day represents the beginning of the week long countdown to the upcoming new year… reason enough to celebrate for me. I was going to try to do something more but honestly I am just too damn sick to give a shit, lol. I loathe the bastard that gave me this evil cold.
My gift to the readers is the most un-xmas song I could find with a brief websearch, one track of some of Ministry’s cheasiest and best work complete with record scratches, synth toms and all *sigh*
Happy December 25th to all, whatever your beliefs.

Another reader submission but this time from Chris Price.
“Charge Me Up” is an impressive song that pulls from the electroclashy new(er) wave sound that is slowly but surely permeating every corner of commercials and movies. Chris makes the new synthpop less ‘Little Computer People‘ and more ‘Hall and Oates’ ala Zoot Woman in a very family friendly BUT very good, unapologetic way. This could easily be a “hit” with just a bit more elbow grease. Infectous as hell on all levels and an overall well crafted song. I look forward to hearing more from this very promising project.
Can he do it again? I certainly hope so.

12.24.04 theme: darkwinter pt I view all past selections here
Darkwinter is a dark ambient and experimental soundscape netlabel with only a few (but very high quality) atmospheric works. It is unusual to find a netlabel with “goth” or “industrial” flavor so I knew I had to feature this particular netlabel as soon as I could. If you are a fan of Autopsia, Coil or Cold Meat Industry then you are sure to find some worthwhile material here. A patient ear is suggested, if not necessary. If you like drones and active listening then these tracks are the beginning to a perfect, cold, dark winter. Tracks to loose yourself in for an evening. I was pleased to see that they plan to make a tribute compilation for Jhonn Balance’s recent passing… should be very interesting. Finally, I am only describing only the sounds in these tracks because they really are best experienced with repeated listens.
PHOLDE - “Epicalyx” mp3 - metal scrapings, very long reverb and plenty of tension.
Samsangelswing - “Freeway Execution Ice Cream Style” mp3 - broken clicks, grinding, idle engines and even some FM synth sounds.
Fadladder - “Children of the Monolith” mp3 - swirling voices and groans, my fave and perhaps the “darkest” of these 5 tracks.
ANGELswing - “Pale Winds and Parasites” mp3 - air giving way to low tones giving way to burbling, broken elephants, and cycling.
Samsa - “Ubligum Day (early version)” mp3 - delayed and filtered voices and whispers
Of course, many more tracks can be found at the netlables website, please visit them and show your support.

Pretty damn old (though still very good) Autechre track from the album “Incunabula” of 1993. Relaxed IDM with very nice undercurrents.

It’s the song I hate. Wait, ummm, no that’s not it at all…

Another new discovery worth mentioning, Ampop. “Made for Market” is a very fitting title for this track because it manages to give a pop-minded, accessable sound and structure to the click/glitch sounds usually reserved for the Mille Plateaux label. A pleasant, moody track not entirely unlike some Sigur Ros and every bit as beautiful.
